Gary Lewis
Gary holds a doctorate of musical arts
from the University of Oregon where he specialized in flute performance
and music history. In California, Oregon and New York he studied
with prominent teachers such as John Krell, John Solum, Richard
Trombley, and Burnett Atkinson.
As a flute
and saxophone player he has performed with numerous groups ranging from
early music to contemporary jazz. As a classical performer he has
worked with almost every major performing group in the Eugene area
including the Eugene Opera, Eugene Symphony, American Music Festival,
Oregon Baroque Ensemble, Oregon Mozart Players, Yaquina Chamber
Orchestra, and Eugene Festival of Musical Theater. He has been
featured as a soloist on both modern and baroque flutes with various
groups in Oregon, Bogota, and Panama.
As a performer of jazz and popular music he has performed with numerous
bands throughout the Northwest, New York, and Panama and has had the
opportunity to work with renowned musicians such as Quincy Jones and
Ella Fitzgerald.
Gary is also a flute maker and restores vintage
ones, activity for which he has been recognized internationally for

Alan Tarpinian
Alan Tarpinian graduated from New England
Conservatory in 1976 and moved to Germany for five years, where he
taught at the Neubieberger Volkshochschule in Munich, recorded and
performed all over Europe with various jazz artists.
In 1982
Tarpinian moved to Eugene and has since performed in the Northwest with
internationally renowned artists such as Mal Waldron, David Friesen,
Herb Ellis, Charlie Rouse, Eddie Harris, Clark Terry, Bobby Hutcherson,
Bucky Pizzarelli, George Cables, Bobby McFerrin, Dick Hyman, Kenny
Werner, Poncho Sanchez and many others. He was the drummer and
co-founder of the Eugene Jazz Orchestra (big band), played for 12 years
with Caliente, a popular 13 piece Latin-Salsa group and was a faculty
member at Lane Community College for 5 years.
Since moving to Portland in 2005 he has performed with Nancy King,
Steve Christofferson, Dave Frishberg, Glen Moore, Ingred Jensen, Randy
Porter, Gordon Lee and other top Portland musicians.
In addition to private teaching, Tarpinian also appears regularly as a
guest artist with the Eugene Symphony, the Western Oregon State College
Jazz Orchestra the Oregon Bach Festival and Oregon Festival of American
